Since 2021, HD Hyundai has received orders for a total of 19 methanol-powered container ships from Maersk and has continued to cooperate for the decarbonization of the shipbuilding and shipping industries, including the successful delivery last year of the world's first ultra-large methanol-powered container ship.

Through this MOU, Maersk plans to apply HD Hyundai's state-of-the-art ship decarbonization technology to its fleet to reduce carbon emissions, while HD Hyundai will expand the application of Maersk's integrated logistics services to its affiliates to strengthen the global supply chain.

Initially, the two companies will apply Avikus's navigation optimization solution 'HiNAS' and HD Hyundai Marine Solution's AI-based decarbonization and economic navigation solution 'OceanWise' to Maersk container ships built and delivered by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and will conduct a six-month trial operation.

They will also seek cooperation in ship decarbonization retrofitting, including engine efficiency optimization, increasing container ship cargo capacity, and dual-fuel propulsion conversion, and will review the feasibility of the recently established HD Hydrogen and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems.

Additionally, HD Hyundai will expand its maritime logistics services through the 'East-West Route Network,' a shipping network in which Maersk participates, and will utilize Maersk's integrated logistics services for air and land transportation, as well as warehouse infrastructure.

HD Hyundai will begin by applying customized logistics services to certain affiliates, such as HD Hyundai Site Solution and HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and will gradually expand Maersk's integrated logistics services across all affiliates to enhance the stability and speed of the global supply chain.

Jung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai, stated, "Cooperation with Maersk will become a leading example of combining decarbonized shipping technology and integrated logistics networks to bring innovation to the global logistics market," adding, "We will rapidly advance our world-class shipbuilding technology with the goal of establishing a sustainable maritime logistics network that ensures safety, reduces carbon emissions, and achieves optimal efficiency."

Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of Maersk, emphasized, "The synergy created by combining HD Hyundai's innovative eco-friendly technology with Maersk's global logistics network will set a new standard for sustainable shipping and logistics."
