LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI Head to InterBattery Europe to Strengthen ESS Market Competitiveness

LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI will participate in 'InterBattery Europe 2025', which will be held in Munich, Germany from May 7 to 9 (local time). Both companies aim to strengthen their market competitiveness by showcasing batteries for energy storage systems (ESS).

On May 6, LG Energy Solution announced that it will take part in the exhibition under the theme 'Empower Every Possibility, Empower Whenever You Need', emphasizing its commitment to providing sustainable solutions anytime and anywhere.

LG Energy Solution will unveil for the first time a new 20-foot standard container-type ESS product for power grids, equipped with European-made lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells.

The new product features a stack-type structure that combines three modules into a single pack, minimizing the space between packs to deliver superior energy density compared to existing products.

Each module is equipped with a cooling plate at the bottom, through which coolant flows, enabling efficient thermal management. The product also incorporates thermal isolation technology to enhance both battery efficiency and safety.

The new product uses the latest ESS-dedicated LFP cell, JF2S, which is scheduled to be produced at the Wroclaw plant in Poland. The JF2S cell boasts approximately 2.7 times greater energy capacity and an ultra-long lifespan of about 15,000 cycles compared to the previous JF1 cell.

The company will also introduce the JF1R, a residential ESS product targeting the European market. This product is characterized by fast delivery, stable supply, and competitiveness that meets European Union (EU) quality standards, all based on local European production.

In addition, LG Energy Solution will exhibit high-output battery systems for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed for the global artificial intelligence (AI) data center market.

At this exhibition, LG Energy Solution will also introduce a pilot version of its 'Battery Passport System' for the first time as a proactive strategy to comply with European battery regulations (EUBR).

The battery passport is a system that digitalizes and manages key information throughout the battery's life cycle, from production to disposal, including performance, chemical composition, and carbon footprint.

Based on the experience gained from developing the pilot version, LG Energy Solution plans to independently develop and operate its own battery regulation management (BRM) system.

Kim Hyungsik, Executive Vice President and Head of the ESS Battery Division at LG Energy Solution, stated, "In the rapidly expanding European market for ESS, we are proactively responding to customer needs based on top quality and a local production system. We will thoroughly adapt to changing policy environments and provide integrated solutions encompassing both software and hardware, further solidifying our leadership in ESS within Europe."

Samsung SDI will exhibit its independently developed UPS battery products and the world's largest-capacity ESS batteries at actual size under the theme 'InCelligent Life, Always ON'.

The new UPS battery product, U8A1, combines high performance with top-tier safety, making it optimized for AI data centers. It not only supplies emergency power during outages but also stabilizes power quality when there is a sudden surge in power demand.

Featuring industry-leading high-output technology, the new product can deliver the same output as existing products with fewer units, significantly improving space efficiency.

The 'Samsung Battery Box (SBB) 1.5', displayed on a life-size LED screen, is a large-capacity (5.26 MWh) integrated finished product that can be used immediately once connected to the power grid.

Samsung SDI also plans to showcase its prismatic battery products and technologies, as well as its 46mm cylindrical and all-solid-state batteries, which are drawing significant industry attention.

A Samsung SDI representative stated, "At this exhibition, we will present innovative and safer next-generation batteries optimized for the AI era," adding, "We will lead the market with advanced battery technology."
