The court has dismissed the arrest warrants for activists from the Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (Jeonjangyeon) who staged a protest atop the bell tower of Hyehwa-dong Cathedral.
According to police, on May 5, Judge Lee Sojin of the Seoul Central District Court conducted a warrant review for two Jeonjangyeon activists, identified as Lee and Min, who were accused of violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act, among other charges, and subsequently dismissed the arrest warrants.
Judge Lee explained the decision by stating, "The suspects are not disputing the facts and are mainly making legal arguments. Considering that a substantial amount of objective evidence related to the charges has already been secured, there is no concern about further destruction of evidence. Furthermore, given their stable residence, employment, and family ties, there is little risk of flight."
Lee and others climbed the bell tower of Hyehwa-dong Cathedral on April 18, protesting for 15 days, claiming that the Catholic Church was distorting the rights of people with disabilities to leave institutions.
