"Planning the Third Act of My Life in the US...
Left the Party Because It Abandoned Me"
Former Daegu Mayor Hong Junpyo announced on May 5 that he would be making a brief trip to the United States, where an acquaintance resides, in order to plan the third act of his life.
On this day, Hong stated on Facebook, "I want to forget about worldly affairs and get some complete rest as I prepare to start the third act of my life."
He wrote, "If passing the bar exam 43 years ago and starting my career as a prosecutor was the first act of my life, then entering the New Korea Party 30 years ago and beginning my political career was the second act."
He continued, "I did not leave the party because I abandoned it, but rather because the party abandoned me. With this sense of relief, I want to bring the second act of my life to a close." Hong Junpyo left the People Power Party immediately after being eliminated from the party's presidential primary on April 29.
Hong Junpyo is scheduled to leave the country before the presidential election.
