Celebratory Message for Buddha's Birthday
Emphasizing "Pasahyeonjeong and Bonlaeseongbul"
Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, emphasized on May 5, in celebration of Buddha's Birthday in the year 2569 of the Buddhist calendar, "Guided by the teachings of Buddha, we will strive to build a fair and just society, and create a warm and happy community?a Daedong world?where we respect one another with compassion and empathy."
In his congratulatory message on this day, Governor Kim stated, "I hope that Buddha's compassion and wisdom will fill every home and workplace," expressing his wishes in this way.
Governor Kim pointed out, "Our society is facing great difficulties right now. The hardships of daily life are worsening for ordinary people, and obstacles of injustice and corruption are lurking throughout society, deepening conflicts and increasing anxiety about the future."
He continued, "At times like this, I am reminded of two important Buddhist teachings: Pasahyeonjeong (breaking falsehood and revealing the truth) and Bonlaeseongbul (the innate Buddha-nature). According to these teachings, I hope that injustice and corruption will disappear from our society, that privileges and vested interests will be eliminated in a renewed Republic of Korea, and that the pure Buddha-nature will shine brightly in everyone's heart."
Pasahyeonjeong means to break what is wrong and reveal what is right, while Bonlaeseongbul signifies that everyone inherently possesses the heart of Buddha.
Governor Kim added, "This year, Children's Day and Buddha's Birthday fall on the same day. Buddha taught children to be truthful and compassionate, to think for themselves, and to respect each individual's life. I hope that children will grow up properly through these teachings."
