Speaker Woo Wonshik Calls Acting President Lee Juhyo: "Please Strengthen Security for Presidential Candidates" Yonhap News

On May 4, National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik announced that he had spoken by phone with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Juhyo, who is currently serving as Acting President, to request strengthened security for presidential candidates.


Speaker Woo stated on Facebook that day, "There are growing concerns about the personal safety of the candidates running in the presidential election," and conveyed his request accordingly.


He emphasized, "Elections are the flower of democracy. They must be conducted freely, fairly, and peacefully," adding, "Any form of violence, including threats or intimidation against candidates, cannot be tolerated."


He further explained, "We must be prepared for any possible situation that may arise due to heightened social conflict," and said, "I have asked for special attention to ensure there are no security lapses regarding the safety of the presidential candidates."


It was reported that Acting President Lee also expressed his agreement with Speaker Woo's request.
