Gwangju Cultural Foundation to Host "Thursday Concert" Series in May

The Gwangju Cultural Foundation's signature regular performance, the "Thursday Concert," will be held every Thursday evening for three weeks starting on May 15 at the Small Theater of the Gwangju Bitgoeul Art Space. As the first season of the year, the stage will feature a harmonious blend of literature and music, as well as tradition and modernity.

The first "Thursday Concert" of the year, opening on May 15, will begin with Felice Ensemble's "Si Munhakpa, Becoming Song." This performance will reinterpret the poems of renowned Honam poets such as Park Yongcheol, Lee Subok, Kim Yunsik, and Kim Hyunggu as songs. Named after the Italian word for "happiness," Felice Ensemble is a group known for highlighting historical figures through music. The performers on this day include sopranos Kim Myungseon and Joanna, mezzo-soprano Kim Yujeong, tenor Park Youngkwon, baritone Hwang Jinwon, and pianist Lee Soonggyu.

The second concert, taking place on May 22, will be a musical journey through time with the jazz ensemble Rendezvous. This performance will combine traditional jazz with a modern touch, featuring vocalist Kang Eunyoung, saxophonist Choi Euimook, drummer Hwang Euiseok, bassist Lim Bangul, and pianist Kim Taehyung. The concert will be narrated by Heo Youngil.

The final concert on May 29 will be a classical stroll filled with communication and emotion, presented by Love Us Ensemble. This storytelling concert will transcend genres, ranging from classical masterpieces to film and musical OSTs, electronic music, and folk songs, delivering comfort and joy to the audience through interaction. The performers include flutist Baek Hyunjung, violinist Kim Gwanhoo, cellist Lee Soyeon, pianists Choi Eunnyoung, Seol Hyoseon, and Jung Kyunghee, and vocalists Kim Youngsil and Kim Yongwon. The narration will be provided by Lee Jihyang.

Admission is 5,000 won per person, and all proceeds will be given to the performing teams. Ten percent of all seats will be provided free of charge to vulnerable groups, including Munhwanuri users. For more details, visit the Gwangju Cultural Foundation website or the "Dear My Gwangju" platform.
