In a statement released that day, Kwon said, "The far right is aiming for power," and described the development as "a provocation against democracy."

Kwon remarked, "I am well aware of former Minister Kim's hostility toward labor," pointing out that "he disparaged the Ssangyong Motor labor union as a 'suicide commando unit' and praised the low wages and poor working conditions at Gwangju Global Motors."

Kwon further stated, "All that remains for the degenerate People Power Party is insurrection," adding, "The spirits of all the workers and martyrs who have gone before us, the citizens in the public squares who follow them, and the will to live of every being on this land will reject you."
