On April 29 (local time), the New York Post reported that actress and food blogger Mairlyn Smith (age 70) recently recommended the "fart walk" on TikTok. The "fart walk" refers to taking a light stroll after dinner to expel gas from the body. By doing a "fart walk," one can effectively relieve abdominal cramps and bloating by releasing the gas that naturally forms after a meal while walking.

Smith stated, "A 10 to 20-minute fart walk after dinner helps with aging gracefully," and shared that she personally practices a 60-minute fart walk with her husband after dinner. In particular, Smith claimed, "Even walking for just two minutes during a fart walk can help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes." The "fart walk" video she posted on TikTok has garnered millions of views and significant attention.

This "fart walk" has actually been shown to aid digestion and blood sugar control. Tim Tiutan, an internal medicine specialist at New York's Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, expressed his full support for the fart walk through social media, explaining, "Post-meal walking promotes bowel movement, which helps remove gas and prevent constipation. It also prevents blood sugar spikes, can increase insulin sensitivity for up to 24 hours, and even lowers cancer risk."

An expert from Iran introduced the ideal posture for the "fart walk": clasping the hands behind the back and walking with the head slightly tilted forward. This posture helps reduce the amount of air swallowed and increases abdominal pressure, allowing trapped gas to move more smoothly through the digestive tract.

Foreign media added, "Although more specific research on the fart walk is needed, there are already studies showing that moderate physical activity such as walking can significantly reduce the risk of premature death." The U.S. National Cancer Institute recommends walking for 150 to 300 minutes per week. According to a study conducted in 2021, just 10 minutes of walking per day was found to help relieve abdominal bloating. Another study found that a simple walk is more effective for digestion than running.
