People Power Party's Final Presidential Candidate 'Anti-Impeachment Kim Moonsoo' Defeats Han Donghoon with Majority Vote (Update)

Kim Moonsoo Wins People Power Party Presidential Nomination
with 56.53%, Defeating Han Donghoon at 43.47%

Former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moonsoo was elected as the final presidential candidate for the People Power Party on May 3.

Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, secured a total vote share of 56.53% at the party's 5th convention held at KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang on May 3, defeating former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon, who received 43.47%.

In the party member vote, Kim received 61.25% (246,519 votes), leading Han, who garnered 38.75% (155,961 votes), by more than 20 percentage points.

In public opinion polls, Kim also led with 51.81%, ahead of Han, who received 48.19%.

Kim is classified as a leading figure among the so-called "anti-impeachment" faction, who opposed the impeachment of former President Yoon Sukyeol. In contrast, Han belongs to the "pro-impeachment" camp. During the impeachment crisis, Kim gained support from the traditional conservative base through his hardline statements.

The People Power Party primary, which began on April 16 with eight candidates, was narrowed down to Kim Moonsoo and Han Donghoon after two rounds of cutoffs, and the final candidate was selected on this day.

Given Kim's active support for the "anti-Lee Jaemyung big tent" during the primary, he is expected to begin discussions on unifying candidacies with former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, who declared his presidential bid the previous day.
