Urges Retrial Court to Deliver a "Fair Verdict"

Shin Dongwook, chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, criticized, "The Democratic Party's intimidation of the judiciary is becoming increasingly outrageous," and added, "I hope they will at least show a minimum sense of responsibility regarding the administrative vacuum."

On May 3, in a commentary, Shin stated, "The Democratic Party expressed respect for the appellate court that acquitted Lee Jaemyung, but is now displaying a double standard by threatening the Supreme Court with remarks such as 'judicial coup, presidential election interference,' and 'Look at these people? Just wait one month.'"

He continued, "Not only did they attempt an anti-constitutional overthrow of the state through retaliatory impeachment, but they also went so far as to propose an amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act stipulating that if a defendant is elected president, the court must suspend the trial until the end of the term."

Shin further criticized, "From the remarks of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee chairman, who threatened 'an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,' we can see both the irresponsibility of ignoring the administrative vacuum and the ruthlessness of being willing to use any means necessary to protect Lee Jaemyung."

He added, "Yesterday, they gathered in front of the Supreme Court and chanted slogans such as 'colluding in Lee Jaemyung's political assassination by rebellious forces' and 'stern punishment,' and even called for the impeachment of Supreme Court justices. They also introduced a bill to amend the Public Official Election Act, which includes the deletion of the crime of disseminating false information and a significant increase in the monetary threshold for invalidating an election victory."

Shin stated, "Has the Democratic Party lost even the minimum sense of responsibility and reason for the sole purpose of shielding Lee Jaemyung, to the point that they cannot even see the people? 'If there is a crime, there must be punishment' is a fundamental principle and truth in a law-governed nation."

He went on to emphasize, "The public is now questioning whether a party that pushes ahead with 'wiinseolbeop'?tailoring the law to suit a particular individual?to grant Lee Jaemyung a judicial exemption through irrational means, and that displays irresponsibility in the face of a national crisis, is qualified to govern. The Democratic Party must take responsibility for causing an administrative vacuum and recover at least a minimum level of restraint and rationality."

He also urged, "I call on the retrial court not to be swayed by any external pressure and to render a just and fair verdict solely in accordance with the law."
