On May 3, Lee's campaign stated, "We continue to receive reports of plots to attack the candidate," and added, "For safety reasons, we have decided to limit face-to-face contact."
On this day, while visiting the Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, Lee said, "For security reasons, I am unable to greet people by shaking hands," and continued, "I ask for your understanding. There is a potential threat today as well, so the security team remains on high alert."
As part of the 'East Coast Belt Listening Tour,' Lee visited Sokcho and Yangyang on the same day and announced pledges to revitalize the fishing industry.
He pledged to strengthen the economic foundation of fishing villages by fostering the marine bio industry and leisure tourism industry, expanding complex marine tourism cities by region, and establishing marina and leisure vessel hub clusters.
He also presented directions for restructuring the fisheries industry in response to the climate crisis. He promised to expand the coverage of aquaculture disaster insurance and to make compensation more realistic. At the same time, he pledged to increase support payments for fishermen who close their businesses and to strengthen support for career transitions and settlement.
Lee emphasized, "By increasing public direct payments for fisheries, we will stably support the income of small-scale fishermen, and we will also expand the budget for vouchers and leading organizations to enhance the export competitiveness of seafood products."
