The city announced on May 2 that it held the appointment ceremony for the "6th Women-Friendly City Citizen Participation Group" in the main conference room of City Hall on April 30, presenting letters of appointment to 33 citizens selected through an open recruitment process.
Immediately following the ceremony, a capacity-building training session was held under the theme "Understanding Gender Sensitivity and Women-Friendly Cities." As practical partners in women-friendly policies, the participation group will monitor all aspects of city administration from a gender-sensitive perspective and provide suggestions for improvement.
The group will be divided into three subcommittees?events·meetings, public facilities, and promotional materials?and will be active for two years. They plan to identify inconveniences in daily life or institutional shortcomings from the citizens' perspective and propose solutions to the city. In addition, they will promote gender equality awareness and the creation of a women-friendly city.
Park Eunhee, Director of Future Education and Care at Gumi City, stated, "The Citizen Participation Group represents the most important voices from the field in advancing women-friendly city policies," and added, "We will actively incorporate the group's suggestions to bring about tangible changes that citizens can feel."
Since its launch in 2014, the Gumi City Women-Friendly City Citizen Participation Group has contributed to policy improvements in Gumi through a variety of activities, including consulting on women-friendly projects by department, inspecting emergency safety bells in public restrooms, and monitoring public facilities and promotional materials for festivals and institutions.
