"Please Allow Me to Protect the Country and Its People" Handwritten Letter
"If the Democratic Party Wins, Our Daily Lives Will Be Devastated"
On the eve of the People Power Party's final candidate selection, former PPP leader Han Donghoon visited Daegu and posted a handwritten letter on social media, appealing for support.
On May 2, Han wrote on Facebook, "I couldn't sleep in Daegu," and added, "To prevent the public from being splattered with mud, I will jump into the Democratic Party's mud and fight." He posted this message along with a photo of his handwritten letter.

He wrote, "Yesterday's Supreme Court ruling to overturn and remand Lee Jaemyung's conviction means, first, our chances of winning have increased, and second, if we do not win, the possibility that the country will collapse has also increased."
Han argued that votes for presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung would be wasted, stating, "If we put forward a candidate with legitimacy and vision, we will win." He continued, "On the other hand, Lee Jaemyung and the Democratic Party will resist until the end, and if they win, they will normalize martial law and do whatever it takes to prevent Lee Jaemyung's conviction from being finalized." He explained, "In that process, the country, people's livelihoods, and our daily lives will be devastated."
He especially emphasized, "While other (presidential) candidates are outstanding, they are not the ones who can handle this dogfight." He said, "As someone who stopped martial law in the midst of suffering, I will take the lead and declare, 'We overcame martial law and accepted impeachment, so why don't you accept the Supreme Court's ruling instead of ruining the country?' Rational citizens will respond to this obvious statement."
He concluded by appealing for support in the runoff, saying, "Please allow me to protect this country and its people together with you."
Meanwhile, the People Power Party will hold its national convention at 2 p.m. on May 3 at KINTEX in Ilsan to select its final presidential candidate. On this day, the party will close the 'electoral college vote (50%) and public opinion poll (50%)' for the two candidates tonight. As the candidates compete for last-minute votes, the PPP is also deliberating on the timing and method of unification, following the confirmation of former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo's candidacy.
