Baek Nakho, Mayor of Gimcheon, announced on May 2 that the city held a major policy meeting for 2025. The meeting was attended by National Assembly member Song Eonseok, Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council members Lee Woochung, Choi Byeonggeun, Park Seonha, and Cho Yongjin, Vice Chairman Lee Seungwoo, members of the Gimcheon City Council, and senior officials from Gimcheon City.
This meeting was part of Mayor Baek Nakho's initiative to realize an "open administration based on one team and communication," which he has emphasized since the beginning of his term. The meeting served as a venue to seek the present and future direction of Gimcheon.
During the meeting, there were in-depth discussions and exchanges of opinions regarding the city's major pending projects and the direction of projects requesting national and provincial funding.
The participants shared their views on a variety of projects, including the construction of a specialized integrated medical center for children aimed at establishing essential medical infrastructure to address low birth rates; the fourth phase development of the Gimcheon 1 General Industrial Complex and designation of Gimcheon as a national industrial complex specializing in transportation to lay the foundation for future growth engines; urban environment improvement in the Pyeonghwa District to revitalize the deteriorated old downtown area; and proposals for the Fifth National Railroad Network Construction Plan to expand the railway network.
National Assembly member Song Eonseok pledged, "I will actively support everything from securing budgets to consultations with central government ministries to ensure that Gimcheon's major projects proceed without setbacks," reaffirming his commitment to cooperation with Gimcheon City.
Mayor Baek Nakho stated, "For Gimcheon City to continue growing and developing, it is essential above all to communicate and unite our efforts in the same direction with a spirit of solidarity." He added that he would continue to hold regular meetings in the future to share opinions for the ongoing development of Gimcheon City.
