Gijang County in Busan will host the '2025 Gijang Market Festival' at Gijang Market, the region's representative traditional market, from May 3 to May 4, 2025.
This event is organized by the Gijang Market Merchants Association (President Kim Dongchan), with merchants directly participating in the planning. It is designed as a festival to give back the support received from local residents and visitors. As Gijang Market has recently established itself as a specialized seafood market, it is gaining attention as a cultural market festival befitting its elevated status.
During the festival, a variety of performance programs will be held, including the 'Gijang Market Fresh Concert,' 'Talent Contest,' 'Cultural Club Performances,' 'K-Trot Festival,' and 'Unique Trot Concert.'
In particular, at 6:30 p.m. on May 3, celebratory performances by Kang Hyeyeon, Elecdiva, and Aplus will take place. At the same time on May 4, a trot concert featuring Audrey Girls, Taeja, and Superdiva will be held, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Additionally, there will be a food market offering seafood pancakes, grilled fish, fish cake soup, and noodles, as well as various interactive programs such as fan-making, cotton candy experience, live auctions, and random games, expected to attract families and visitors alike.
Kim Dongchan, President of the Gijang Market Merchants Association, stated, "We prepared this festival to share the flavors and warmth that embody the stories of Gijang Market with citizens," and added, "As Gijang Market was recently selected for the '2026 Commercial District Revitalization Project,' I hope this will be a meaningful time to celebrate this joy together."
County Governor Jeong Jongbok emphasized, "We will continue to provide consistent and practical support so that Gijang Market can establish itself as a hub for revitalizing traditional markets in the eastern Busan area."
Gijang Market was finally selected for the '2026 Commercial District Revitalization Project' organized by Busan City, and a total of 4 billion won (2 billion won in national funds, 1 billion won in city funds, and 1 billion won in county funds) will be invested from 2026 to 2030. Through this project, Gijang County plans to implement various improvement initiatives to foster autonomous commercial districts and strengthen the competitiveness of traditional markets.
