The site inspection was attended by Guri Mayor Baek Kyunghyun, Baek Hyeonjong, Chair of the Urban Environment Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, Lee Eunju, Vice Chair of the Council Operations Committee, officials from the Gyeonggi Water Resources Headquarters, and Guri City officials. They listened to an overview of the entire project and shared key issues.
The Inchangcheon ecological stream restoration project is a large-scale environmental improvement initiative that involves demolishing approximately 810 meters of aging covered concrete structures from Doldari Park in Sutaek-dong to the confluence with Wangsukcheon, and creating eco-friendly spaces such as an ecological waterway and walking paths. The total project cost is 47.5 billion KRW, with 50% funded by Gyeonggi Province and 35% covered by the Hangang Watershed Fund.
Guri City plans to link this restoration project with the ongoing urban regeneration revitalization project by simultaneously promoting improvements to the pedestrian environment, the creation of a specialized Suridangil street, and the operation of ecological experience programs. Through these efforts, the city aims to return waterfront spaces within the urban area to citizens and invigorate local commercial districts.
Mayor Baek Kyunghyun stated, "This is an important project to restore urban waterways that disappeared due to rapid urbanization and to return waterfront spaces where nature and people coexist to the citizens." He added, "We will do our utmost to ensure the project proceeds smoothly and construction begins as soon as possible, minimizing inconvenience for residents."
Meanwhile, Guri City is preparing for the final review of the Gyeonggi Province Ecological Stream Restoration Project, scheduled for May 20, and is making every effort to complete administrative procedures and begin construction bidding in July.
