Statement Issued: "A Judicial Coup Disguised as the Rule of Law"
"We Will Fight to the End for the End of Insurrection and Restoration of Democracy"
Moon Geumju, Member of the National Assembly.
Moon Geumju, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Goheung, Boseong, Jangheung, and Gangjin in South Jeolla Province, stated on May 2, "I strongly condemn the Supreme Court's unjust intervention in the presidential election."
In a statement released that day, Moon said, "The Supreme Court has issued a conviction-oriented remand ruling against candidate Lee Jaemyung," and added, "This is an unprecedentedly rushed verdict, delivered just 36 days after the trial date was set. At its core, it is election interference disguised as the rule of law, and constitutes a second coup d'etat by the judiciary."
He further pointed out, "The timing and manner of the ruling alone make it clear that this is blatant 'election interference' that has undermined political neutrality. The court has overturned the freedom of political expression, which has been protected under the spirit of the Constitution, and has rendered a verdict that punishes even perceptions and abstract judgments. As a result, public trust in the judiciary has hit rock bottom, and this will go down as a dark chapter in judicial history."
He continued, "The Supreme Court has vividly demonstrated the politicization of the judiciary by abnormally applying the '6·3·3 principle' and proceeding with the trial at an unprecedented pace. While the Constitutional Court stood with the people and on the side of justice, the Supreme Court, which remained silent during the 12·3 insurrection, is now siding with the forces of rebellion by attempting to ensnare and shackle a leading presidential candidate."
He also argued, "The hasty verdict, followed immediately by the sudden resignation of Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, has fueled public suspicion that this is all part of a scripted scenario orchestrated by the 'Yoon Sukyeol-Prosecution-Judiciary cartel.'"
He emphasized, "The time for manipulation by these legal tricksters is over. Now is the time for the sovereign people. While the court may deliver the verdict, it is the people who choose the president. We will root out the remnants of the rebellious forces within the judiciary who have betrayed the people, and together with the sovereign people, we will push for judicial reform to dismantle the deeply entrenched judicial cartel."
Meanwhile, Moon added, "The rebellion is not over; it is still ongoing. To achieve a complete end to the insurrection and restore democracy, I will place my trust solely in the sovereign people and fight with dignity until the very end."
