Ranked Second in Booking.com Searches
Emerging as a K-Gourmet and Tourism City
Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province has proven its soaring popularity by ranking second in the TOP 10 most searched domestic travel destinations for the May Golden Holiday, according to a survey by the global online travel platform Booking.com.
According to the city on May 2, Booking.com announced on April 28 that Mokpo ranked second after Pohang in the list of domestic travel destinations that saw an explosive increase in search volume during the Golden Holiday period from April 30 to May 6, compared to the previous year.
Mokpo, the only city in the Jeonnam region to make the list, surpassed major tourist cities such as Busan, Gangneung, and Gyeongju, establishing itself as a key destination in the domestic travel market.
Recently, Mokpo City has been actively promoting its diverse culinary attractions and abundant sights through various media marketing campaigns, earning recognition as Korea's top gourmet tourism city. In particular, from May onward, a series of major mega-events are set to take place, making Mokpo a must-visit destination.
From May 23 to 25, the unique music festival "2025 Mokpo Music Play" will be held. In addition, the Marine W Show, which drew enthusiastic cheers from over 25,000 spectators during its successful opening last month, will once again light up Mokpo's night sea on May 31.
In the fall, the "Mokpo Port Festival," which recreates traditional Pasi culture and is recognized as Jeonnam's best festival, will be held alongside the "2025 Namdo International Culinary Industry Expo," offering visitors to Mokpo a special experience that appeals to all five senses.
A city official stated, "We sincerely appreciate the great interest in Mokpo," adding, "We will do our utmost to establish a welcoming environment for tourists and prepare a variety of events so that even more visitors can enjoy unique experiences in Mokpo after May."
