Kim Moonsoo Rides the GTX He Designed and Promoted
Han Donghoon Wraps Up Campaign in Seoul After Visiting PK Region
On May 2, one day before the People Power Party's presidential candidate nomination, former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moonsoo and former party leader Han Donghoon made a final push to secure votes by reaching out to citizens and party members.
On this day, Kim and Han each completed their campaign schedules in different regions: Kim in Seoul and the metropolitan area, and Han in Busan, Gyeongnam (TK), and Seoul. The third round of the People Power Party's primary, which is being conducted with 50% public opinion polling and 50% party member voting, will conclude at 10 p.m. on the same day. The previous day's mobile voting turnout among party member electors was tallied at 44.83%, a 2.7 percentage point increase from the final mobile voting rate in the second round. On this day, an ARS (automated response system) vote will be held for party member electors who did not participate in mobile voting. The final results will be announced at the party convention to be held on May 3 at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
Kim Moonsoo rode the Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX)-A line between Suseo and Dongtan stations, communicating with commuters during rush hour. Afterwards, he held a youth policy presentation ceremony at his campaign headquarters in Daehwa Building, Yeouido, Seoul, and later participated in a meeting with Seoul district party committee chairs at the People Power Party's Seoul branch. Han Donghoon, after visiting Masan Fish Market in Changwon, Gyeongnam, and Ggangtong Market in Busan to appeal for support from PK citizens, wrapped up his schedule with a "Happy Walk" event, walking and communicating with citizens in Magok District, Gangseo, and Seokchon Lake, Songpa, Seoul.
The day's activities by Kim Moonsoo and Han Donghoon are interpreted as being conscious of the strengths each has in party member voting and public opinion polling, respectively. Kim chose the GTX for the last day of the third primary vote, a project he designed and promoted during his time as Gyeonggi Province Governor. As a presidential pledge, Kim also announced plans to expand the GTX to five major metropolitan areas. In particular, the meeting with Seoul district party committee chairs is also intended to attract party member votes, which have been divided.
In contrast, Han Donghoon scheduled his final campaign activity for the third primary as an event with citizens. The previous day, he visited Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province to ease negative perceptions of himself as a supporter of impeachment ("chantan"), and on May 2, he focused on appealing to party members in the PK region.
Han Donghoon posted a handwritten letter on social media, stating, "I couldn't sleep last night in Daegu. I will jump into the Democratic Party's mud and fight to win so that no dirt splashes onto the people." Han also said, "A vote for Lee Jaemyung (the Democratic Party's presidential candidate) will be a wasted vote, so if we field a candidate with legitimacy and vision, we will win."
