Gyeonggi-do is accepting applications for the "2025 Gyeonggi-do Generative AI and Public Data Utilization Startup Competition" until May 30.
This competition also serves as the Gyeonggi-do regional preliminary for the "2025 13th Pan-Government Public Data Utilization Startup Competition" organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Some of the winning teams will be recommended as candidates to advance to the integrated finals scheduled for September.
The competition is open to all citizens, either as individuals or in teams of up to four members. It is divided into three categories: idea planning, product and service development, and idea planning for university students. This year, a new category for undergraduate and graduate students has been introduced.
Gyeonggi-do will select a total of nine teams to receive awards from the Governor of Gyeonggi-do, the President of the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency, and the Chairman of the Korea Student Aid Foundation. The top team will receive a prize of up to 6 million won. The total prize pool for this year's competition is 26.5 million won, an increase of 11.5 million won from last year's 15 million won.
Gyeonggi-do will assign experts from leading big tech companies in the data and AI sectors as dedicated mentors for the winning teams, providing one-on-one mentoring to help refine ideas and improve the completion of products and services.
Kim Kibyung, Director of AI at Gyeonggi-do, stated, "Innovative startups utilizing generative AI and public data will become the cornerstone of future economic growth and the creation of social value," adding, "We hope this competition will uncover a wide variety of creative and feasible ideas that can be linked to AI startups."
