LG Display to Showcase Next-Generation Technologies at SID 2025

LG Display is participating in the Society for Information Display (SID) 2025, the world's largest display event held in San Jose, United States, where it will unveil a wide range of next-generation technologies. The company plans to showcase new products that take screen brightness, size, and form to the next level, once again highlighting its technological prowess.

The first product to be unveiled is an OLED panel with a brightness of up to 4,000 nits (one nit is roughly equivalent to the brightness of a single candle). This panel is designed for televisions and is integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) features that automatically detect the surrounding brightness and environment to deliver the optimal viewing experience. For example, during bright daylight, the screen automatically becomes brighter, while at night, it adjusts to a tone that is comfortable for the eyes.

A variety of new products will also be exhibited in the field of automotive displays. Recognizing that automotive interior design is increasingly centered around screens, LG Display is introducing a range of products, including stretchable displays that change shape freely, ultra-large dashboard screens, and foldable screens that extend only when needed.

One notable example is the stretchable display, which remains flat under normal conditions but bulges up like a button when pressed by hand. This product is designed for easy operation while driving. The screen size can also be expanded by up to 50%, allowing for more flexible use of the vehicle's interior space.

The Pillar to Pillar display is an ultra-large 57-inch screen that spans the entire front of the vehicle from the driver's seat to the passenger seat. With this single screen, users can access driving information, navigation, music, movies, and more all at once.

The Slidable OLED is concealed in the ceiling and only descends when needed, unfolding into a display. This product is ideal for rear-seat passengers to enjoy movies or games.

All of these products are engineered to operate reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from minus 40 degrees Celsius to 85 degrees Celsius. They are also equipped with SPM, a viewing angle control technology that restricts the screen from being seen from the side, so that while a passenger is watching a movie, the screen remains invisible from the driver's seat. This helps drivers maintain focus on the road.

In 2019, LG Display became the first in the world to apply OLED technology to automobiles, and now offers a wide variety of options. The company manufactures P-OLED, a flexible plastic-based display; ATO, a thinner and more premium screen; and high-definition LCDs with sharp image quality.
