Gyeonggi Province Designates May as the Month for Comprehensive and Individual Local Income Tax Filing and Payment

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will operate filing centers for comprehensive income tax and individual local income tax until June 2.

The filing and payment requirements apply to individuals with comprehensive income for 2024. General taxpayers must complete filing and payment by June 2, while those subject to the “faithful filing confirmation” must do so by the end of June.

Online filing and payment can be easily completed without additional authentication through the National Tax Service's Hometax website (hometax.go.kr) and the local tax payment system Wetax (wetax.go.kr).

Additionally, for taxpayer convenience, filing centers will be operated in 31 cities and counties from May 1 to June 2.

Taxpayers who have received the “all-filled” guidance notice, which is a pre-filled return sent by the National Tax Service, can visit the city or county filing centers for assistance. They may also use the “self-preparation desk,” equipped with computers and manuals, to file their taxes independently.

A “one-stop filing” system will also be established through mutual dispatch between tax offices and city or county offices, allowing taxpayers to file both national and local income taxes at a single location. Taxpayers may visit either a tax office or a city/county filing center to complete both comprehensive income tax and individual local income tax filings.

Tax support will also be provided for exporting small and medium-sized enterprises and taxpayers located in designated special disaster areas. For individual business owners whose 2024 export volume accounts for more than half of their sales, or who have been designated as export-related businesses by the Korea Customs Service or KOTRA, as well as taxpayers in special disaster areas such as those designated due to fighter jet misfire incidents, the payment deadline will be automatically extended to September 1. However, individuals with more than 20 million won in personal financial income are excluded. Even if the payment deadline is extended, the filing must still be completed by June 2.

Even if not eligible for automatic extension, those experiencing business difficulties may apply separately to have the deadline extended.

Additionally, if the individual local income tax amount exceeds 1 million won, payment can be made in installments within two months.

For related inquiries, taxpayers may contact the National Tax Service Call Center (126, no area code required) or the Individual Local Income Tax Consultation Center (1661-6669).

To ensure stable operation of the filing period, Gyeonggi Province will run a comprehensive situation room from May 1 to June 2 to prepare for any system failures and will implement step-by-step responses in the event of any issues.

Ryu Youngyong, Director of Tax Administration at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will minimize inconvenience for taxpayers by ensuring smooth operation of the filing centers," and added, "We especially ask taxpayers to file and pay early, avoiding the last week of May when filings are concentrated."
