Yeonggwang County Requests Designation as Pilot City for Energy Basic Income

Key Projects Proposed at Presidential Election Pledge Briefing Session

Yeonggwang County Requests Designation as Pilot City for Energy Basic Income

On May 1, Yeonggwang County in South Jeolla Province held a briefing session in the county office's small conference room to present its 13 key projects as proposals for the 21st presidential election pledges.

This session was organized to identify and develop policy pledges that reflect Yeonggwang's strengths and future vision, with the aim of submitting them as national agenda items for the next government. Heads of relevant departments and working-level staff attended the meeting.

During the briefing, the county presented its vision for Yeonggwang as the "nation's first pilot city for energy basic income" and as a "future energy industry hub city on the Southwest Coast."

To achieve this, the county proposed pledges in various sectors, including the establishment of a national carbon-free energy industrial complex, the creation of a clean hydrogen cluster, the construction of an O&M base for offshore wind power support, the development of a carbon-neutral smart agro-bio industrial complex, and the enhancement of Baeksu coastal tourism and scenic sites.

A Yeonggwang County official emphasized, "Sunlight and wind have always been possibilities by our side," adding, "Realizing energy basic income and transforming into a hub city for the Southwest Coast energy industry are core tasks that will determine Yeonggwang's future competitiveness."

The official also stated, "Even after proposing these pledges, we will do our utmost to ensure they are included as national agenda items by maintaining continuous consultations with the central government and political parties after the new administration is launched."

Meanwhile, Yeonggwang County plans to focus its administrative capabilities on submitting these presidential election pledge proposals to major political parties so that they can be reflected in each candidate's pledges.
