Goseong County Residents Donate Over 57 Million Won for Yeongnam Wildfire Relief Goseong County residents raise and donate over 57 million won to aid wildfire victims in the Yeongnam region.

This special fundraising campaign saw participation from a wide range of county residents, including businesses, organizations, students, religious groups, farmers and fishermen, and seniors receiving basic pensions. Each contributed what they could with warm hearts, donating through Goseong County Office and local town offices. The funds will be used by relief organizations to provide emergency living expenses, housing support, and daily necessities for wildfire victims in the affected areas.

During the special fundraising period for Yeongnam wildfire victims, which ran from March 24 to April 30, Kim Jeongsun (age 85) from Yeongdong Village in Yeonghyeon-myeon donated 3 million won, which she had saved from her basic pension. In Gonki Village, Maam-myeon, residents canceled their planned spring outing and donated the funds instead. Additionally, students from Geulbom School, a group of late-blooming lifelong learners with an average age of 76, also contributed, expressing their hope that residents of wildfire-affected areas can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.

County Governor Lee Sanggeun stated, "The residents of Goseong have extended warm hands to neighbors suffering from an unexpected disaster. There is a tradition in Goseong of actively helping neighbors in times of crisis without hesitation. The valuable donations collected have been faithfully delivered to relief organizations so that they can be used for practical support in recovery and the restoration of daily life."

Meanwhile, the total amount of donations is expected to be even larger when including individual contributions made by residents directly to relief organizations such as the Community Chest of Korea and the Korean Red Cross, in addition to the donations tallied by Goseong County.

Goseong County plans to continue expanding a culture of sharing within the community by promoting various donation activities and strengthening disaster response systems.
