An internet user who posted malicious comments on articles related to Chung Yooyeon (formerly known as Chung Yoora), the daughter of Choi Seowon (formerly known as Choi Soon-sil), has been fined.
On May 1, Judge Lee Jaemin of the Daejeon District Court, Criminal Division 12, sentenced a man in his 60s, identified as A, to a fine of 100,000 won for insult. In May 2022, A was indicted for posting defamatory comments about Chung on an article related to her, such as calling her "thoughtless" and saying she "should live as quietly as a mouse."
Judge Lee stated, "The defendant publicly insulted the victim through a widely disseminated internet platform, causing the victim to suffer emotional distress due to the insulting comments." He added, "In determining the sentence, the court considered the defendant's admission of guilt and remorse, the absence of any prior convictions for similar offenses, as well as the content, frequency, and circumstances of the comments."
