Fostering Specialized Talent at Each University
Promoting Five Major Project Initiatives
Jeonnam Province has selected universities to carry out the RISE project after more than two years of preparation, officially launching the Jeonnam-type RISE initiative.
The selected projects consist of five major initiatives: ▲Global Region-Specialized Talent Development ▲Regional Industry Innovation Challenge ▲Professional Vocational Lifelong Education Hub Center ▲Hyperconnected Shared Campus ▲Dynamic University-Region Co-Growth. Seventeen universities in the Jeonnam region have been chosen as the implementing institutions for each project.
For the Global Region-Specialized Talent Development project, thirteen universities have been selected for thirteen projects to foster specialized talent in each university's area of expertise.
For the Regional Industry Innovation Challenge project, eight universities have been selected for ten projects to promote industry-academia-research collaboration in Jeonnam's core and future industries, focusing on technology development and talent cultivation.
For the Professional Vocational Lifelong Education Hub Center project, eight universities have been selected for eight projects aimed at strengthening the region's lifelong and vocational education system.
For the Hyperconnected Shared Campus project, six universities have been selected for seven projects to jointly utilize educational infrastructure and foster universities as startup hubs.
For the Dynamic University-Region Co-Growth project, ten universities have been selected for eleven projects to identify local issues and develop joint solutions under university leadership.
The selected projects will be finalized after a ten-day objection period and business plan revision process, and the implementing universities are expected to officially begin the projects around May.
Kim Saeyeon, Director of University Policy at Jeonnam Province, stated, "We will actively support the selected universities so that they can collaborate with the province, cities and counties, research and innovation institutions, and industries to create a successful Jeonnam-type RISE model." He added, "We will do our best to strengthen the competitiveness of regional universities by forming a virtuous cycle of talent development, employment and entrepreneurship, and settlement tailored to local needs, thereby revitalizing Jeonnam."
Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province plans to conduct a re-competition for unselected and additional projects worth 8.2 billion won around May. A total of 67.3 billion won is planned to be invested in the RISE project this year.
