University Taekwondo Athletes from Across the Nation Gather in Yeonggwang, Jeonnam

Including the May Golden Holiday, the 52nd National University Taekwondo Individual Championship will be held for eight days from the 2nd to the 9th at the Yeonggwang Sportium National Sports Center and the Indoor Auxiliary Gymnasium.

This event, hosted and organized by the Korea University Taekwondo Federation, is expected to attract a total of approximately 3,150 participants, including male and female teams from 60 universities nationwide, as well as officials and referees. Intense competitions will take place across various categories such as poomsae, sparring, demonstration, and breaking.

Taekwondo, Korea's traditional martial art and national sport, is enjoyed by people all over the world. It has elevated the nation's prestige by achieving outstanding results in various international competitions and has contributed to national development and unity among the people.

This championship, which determines the top university-level Taekwondo athletes at the center of Korea's Taekwondo prominence, is one of the most significant Taekwondo events held annually. Yeonggwang County played a pivotal role in the development of Taekwondo by hosting the championship for nine consecutive years from 2011 to 2019.

An official from Yeonggwang County stated, "By hosting this championship, more than 3,000 university athletes will stay in our county for eight days, filling the streets with youthful energy. In addition, the economic revitalization effect is expected to exceed 2.5 billion won, which will invigorate the local commercial district."

Meanwhile, the National University Taekwondo Individual Championship offers free on-site admission and will also be broadcast live on YouTube via "Taekwondo Journal TV."
