April 30 at Pukyong Convention Hall
Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) held the 2025 Our Ocean Conference International Symposium (OOC PKNU Symposium) at the Pukyong Convention Hall on the afternoon of April 30.
This symposium was one of the main side events of the 10th Our Ocean Conference (OOC), which is often referred to as the "Davos Forum of the Ocean." It was organized in the form of special lectures by marine science experts from the United States and four East Asian countries, in order to address global marine and fisheries issues such as the climate crisis and changes in marine ecosystems.
The event was co-hosted by the CAMPUS-Asia Korea-Japan-China Expansion Project AFIMA Team (Director Jang Hoguen) and the G-LAMP Team (Director Kim Youngseok) of Pukyong National University. Marine science experts from Louisiana State University in the United States, the Chinese University of Hong Kong in China, Nagasaki University in Japan, and Pukyong National University participated and gave presentations on research topics related to responding to climate change and the sustainable use of coastal and fishery resources.
Following the presentations, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony was held between the International Coastal Science Center (ICSC) of Pukyong National University and Louisiana State University to strengthen academic exchanges, thereby formalizing the foundation for future cooperation between the two institutions.
Professor Ryu Junghyung, Director of the ICSC at Pukyong National University, stated, "Through this symposium, we expect to strengthen the academic network between coastal scientists from the United States and East Asia, raise awareness of the importance of responding to the climate crisis and sustainable ocean management, and establish a practical foundation for cooperation."
The CAMPUS-Asia Korea-Japan-China Expansion Project AFIMA Team at Pukyong National University plans to continue expanding various activities, including this event, to promote joint management of the marine environment, strengthen international cooperation, and foster future professionals.
Pukyong National University students, including Kim Minki (senior majoring in Control and Instrumentation Engineering), Moon Junhyuk and Park Sangmin (seniors majoring in Aquaculture Applied Life Science), and Noh Jiyoung (senior majoring in English Language and Literature), also participated in the "Youth Leadership Summit," another side event of the 10th Our Ocean Conference, and engaged in active activities.
