Kim: "Mega-Polis in Two Years Is Unrealistic" vs Han: "Securing Funds for GTX Lacks Feasibility"

People Power Party Third Primary One-on-One Debate
Kim: "Pledges That Ignore Time Constraints Are Fiction"
Han: "How Will You Secure Funding for the GTX?"

Kim Moonsoo, former Minister of Employment and Labor and a presidential primary candidate for the People Power Party, criticized the 'Five Mega-Polis' strategy proposed by former leader Han Donghoon as a presidential pledge on April 30, saying it lacks feasibility.

During the third primary debate of the People Power Party held at the TV Chosun studio in Jung-gu, Seoul, Kim stated, "A Mega-Polis is a new city concept, whether it connects or transforms existing cities, the goal is to elevate and expand them to the level of Seoul. In that case, how will you address transportation?" he questioned.

Kim further argued, "If you do not take into account the time required, such pledges become empty promises. One candidate said he would serve only three years and accomplish the Mega-Polis in two years. Pledges should be feasible and credible in the eyes of residents," he pointed out.

In response, Han Donghoon questioned the feasibility of Kim Moonsoo's pledge to build five metropolitan GTX (Greater Seoul Metropolitan Express Railway) lines as a presidential pledge. Han countered, "In fact, your proposal to expand GTX nationwide is even less realistic."

He added, "After designating a Mega-Polis, we go through a process of continuous expansion. When you were governor of Gyeonggi Province, you strongly attempted to lift regulations in certain areas. What I am doing is similar to that," he emphasized.

The two candidates had also engaged in a war of nerves over Han Donghoon's Mega-Polis pledge during the second primary debate of the People Power Party's final four on April 26.

Meanwhile, the People Power Party will select its final candidate by combining 50% of the party member electoral college vote and 50% of a general public opinion poll on May 1-2. The results of the runoff will be announced at the party convention held at Ilsan KINTEX at 2 p.m. on May 3.
