Iran Criticizes U.S. for Additional Sanctions During Nuclear Talks
Araghchi: "Provocative actions cast doubt on negotiating sincerity"
Fourth round of negotiations to be held in Rome
Iran has expressed dissatisfaction over additional sanctions imposed by the United States during the ongoing nuclear negotiations.
According to a report by Iran's state-run IRNA news agency on April 30 (local time), Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, told reporters during a cabinet meeting that "provocative actions by a negotiating party raise doubts about their seriousness."
Minister Araghchi stated, "Such actions send a negative message," adding, "We are aware of the various opinions within the United States and are monitoring all developments."
On April 29, the U.S. Department of the Treasury added five Chinese companies, one Iranian company, and six Iranian individuals to its sanctions list for supplying sodium perchlorate, a solid fuel component for ballistic missiles, to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Minister Araghchi also announced that the fourth round of nuclear negotiations with the United States will be held in Rome, Italy, on May 3. He explained that the diminished role of the European Three (E3)?the United Kingdom, France, and Germany?at the negotiation table is due to European policy, but emphasized, "We do not want this situation, and holding the next round of talks in Rome is for this reason."
