Culture Ministry to Offer Humanities Lectures at 700 Cultural Facilities Nationwide Starting in May

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on April 30 that, together with the Arts Council Korea (Arts Council), it has selected humanities lectures to be held at 700 cultural facilities nationwide, familiar to everyday life, starting in May. These lectures aim to provide wisdom and insight for life and community.

The selected lectures include 500 sessions of "Humanities on the Road" and 200 sessions of "Wisdom School."

"Humanities on the Road" is a program that offers local residents opportunities to experience the value of the humanities in a friendly way at cultural facilities close to their daily lives. "Wisdom School" provides opportunities to learn the wisdom of life contained in the humanities at a level as deep as university liberal arts courses. In this round of selection, 391 cultural facilities in the Seoul metropolitan area and 309 facilities in non-metropolitan regions were chosen as support recipients.

The Ministry stated that it will conduct an evaluation of all lectures supported by the program, and those ranked in the top 20% will receive continued support next year.

Additionally, the Ministry added that it will offer various conveniences for participants, such as registration, attendance management, provision of learning materials, and support for follow-up gatherings after participation in humanities programs, all through the "Inmun Network" application. This year, participants can also check the program details and contact information for each facility for both "Humanities on the Road" and "Wisdom School" via the "Inmun Network" app. Those wishing to participate can contact the relevant institution for assistance.

The Ministry also announced that it has selected 100 teams to participate in the "Youth Humanities Experiment," a program in which young people seek practical solutions to social issues. Activities for the Youth Humanities Experiment will also begin in May.

Lee Jeongwoo, Director General for Culture and Arts Policy at the Ministry, stated, "The Ministry is striving to make the humanities, which encompass the meaning of humanity and the value of life, more accessible and diverse for the public." He added, "We hope that participants in the humanities programs will gain wisdom and insight through various activities and experiences, and further reflect on the meaning of a better life and a happy community."
