Buk-gu District Office Issues Emergency Text Alert
Urges Nearby Residents to Evacuate
The wildfire on Hamji Mountain in Buk-gu, Daegu, which had been extinguished on April 29, reignited. In response to the spread of the fire, the fire authorities issued a National Fire Mobilization Order.
According to the forestry authorities on April 30, the wildfire on Hamji Mountain in Buk-gu, Daegu, reignited, forming a fire line approximately 2.1 kilometers toward Seobyeon-dong in Buk-gu. The forestry authorities are conducting firefighting operations by deploying around 190 personnel and equipment, including 41 firefighting helicopters.
In the afternoon, strong winds with instantaneous maximum speeds of about 5 to 10 meters per second spread smoke toward Guam-dong and Seobyeon-dong in Buk-gu.
Emergency evacuation text messages were urgently sent to nearby residents. At around 5:13 p.m. on this day, the Buk-gu District Office in Daegu sent an emergency disaster message stating, "The wildfire on Hamji Mountain is spreading. Residents near Seobyeon-dong should immediately evacuate to Dongbyeon Middle School, Yeongyeong Elementary School, Paldal Elementary School, or Bukbu Elementary School."
The forestry authorities determined that firefighting operations would be necessary even at night, and plan to continue firefighting efforts by deploying personnel and drones equipped with thermal imaging sensors.
Due to the spread of the wildfire, the National Fire Agency issued a National Fire Mobilization Order at 5:47 p.m. on this day. The National Fire Mobilization Order refers to a series of actions in which the central government mobilizes and manages firefighting resources at the disaster site when it is difficult to respond to disasters such as fires using only the firefighting capacity of cities and provinces.
