The first dormitory for seasonal foreign workers in South Chungcheong Province has been built in Cheongyang County. With its completion ceremony, it has now begun full-scale operation, and it is expected to greatly help secure a stable workforce in rural areas.
According to South Chungcheong Province, on the afternoon of April 30, a completion ceremony for the "Cheongyang County Seasonal Foreign Worker Dormitory" was held at Cheongso-ri, Cheongnam-myeon, Cheongyang County. The event was attended by Jeon Hyunsik, Vice Governor for Political Affairs of South Chungcheong Province, Kim Dongon, Mayor of Cheongyang County, as well as heads of various organizations and agencies, local residents, and foreign workers, totaling around 200 participants.
The dormitory for seasonal foreign workers, which began full-scale operation with the completion ceremony, was built after South Chungcheong Province and Cheongyang County were selected in 2022 for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' "Support Project for Building Agricultural Worker Dormitories."
The dormitory for foreign workers, constructed with a project budget of 5.4 billion won, has a total floor area of 775.32 square meters and is a two-story building. The living spaces include eight four-person rooms of 34.81 square meters each and two single rooms of 30.24 square meters each, for a total of 10 rooms accommodating up to 34 residents.
In particular, the dormitory is equipped with facilities such as a shared kitchen and laundry room where residents can cook and eat, a management office, as well as essential appliances including washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, and air conditioners.
The usage fee is set at a deposit of 300,000 won and a monthly rent of 300,000 won.

To ensure efficient management and operation of the dormitory, Cheongyang County plans to operate it in collaboration with Jeongsan Nonghyup, which runs a public rural workforce brokerage center, through a business agreement and consignment contract.
At the completion ceremony, Vice Governor Jeon Hyunsik stated, "The shortage of seasonal worker accommodations and poor living conditions have been ongoing issues, but the Cheongyang County dormitory will make a significant contribution to improving the residential environment and protecting the rights of foreign workers."
Meanwhile, Buyeo County, which was selected for the same project alongside Cheongyang County, is investing 6.5 billion won to remodel the former Jopaegongsa company housing in Yeomchang-ri, Buyeo-eup, into a seasonal foreign worker dormitory. The project aims for completion in June, and the facility will consist of 18 buildings with a total floor area of 2,880 square meters, accommodating 112 residents.
Dangjin City, which was selected in the second round of the 2023 project, is investing 3.6 billion won to build a four-story dormitory with a total floor area of 1,164 square meters in Jogeum-ri, Daehogi-myeon. The facility will accommodate 40 residents and is scheduled for completion by December next year.
Last year, South Chungcheong Province attracted 7,804 seasonal foreign workers. This year, the province aims to bring in more than 9,000 workers, making every effort to alleviate labor shortages during the busy farming season.
