POSCO Completes First Phase of Yard Enclosure Project
Anticipation for Local Environmental Improvement and Economic Revitalization

The ceremony was attended by key POSCO executives, including Heegeun Lee, CEO of POSCO, Yangrae Cho, Senior Vice Chairman of the POSCO Labor Union, Cheolgeun Kim, company-wide employee representative of the Labor-Management Council, and Dongryeol Lee, Head of Pohang Steelworks. Other attendees included Ilman Kim, Chairman of Pohang City Council, Geumhee Yang, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of North Gyeongsang Province, Juyeong Na, Chairman of Pohang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ikhyeon Jeon, Chairman of Pohang Steel Management Corporation.
The POSCO Pohang Steelworks yard enclosure project was carried out over a period of two years and eight months, from 2022 to March 2025. The newly completed linear shed is designed to store approximately 250,000 tons of coal.
In particular, the facility was built as a multipurpose installation, allowing for future conversion to iron ore storage, in consideration of reduced coal usage in line with the decarbonization roadmap.
Additionally, the first phase of the yard enclosure project is significant in that it fundamentally blocks fugitive dust generated from the open yard, thereby establishing an important foundation for the steelworks to advance ESG management practices.

Mayor Kangdeok Lee stated, "I expect that this completion will not only serve as a catalyst for significant progress in improving the local environment, but will also have a positive ripple effect on revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs. I hope POSCO will use this as a stepping stone to continue practicing management that coexists with the local community through ongoing environmental investment and technological innovation. Pohang City will also actively support and cooperate with POSCO's ESG management efforts," he said.
