Korea Railroad Honam Rolling Stock Maintenance Team announced on April 30 that it had held the Happy Train event, a unique social contribution initiative of Korea Railroad.
This event took place in the area of Ganggyeong Modern Street in Nonsan, Chungnam Province, and was organized with the aim of raising awareness about people with disabilities and fostering engagement with the local community.
Happy Train is a flagship social contribution activity of Korea Railroad Corporation, in which underprivileged groups who rarely have the opportunity to travel by train or experience cultural activities are invited to participate in a travel program. Emmaus Sheltered Workshop was selected as the beneficiary institution, and a total of 70 people, including people with disabilities and staff, took part. Participants traveled using KTX and ITX-Saemaeul trains and experienced modern history and culture.
Kang Hwanryong, head of the Honam Rolling Stock Maintenance Team, said, "In celebration of Disabled Persons Day, we prepared a railway trip so that members of the local community who usually find it difficult to travel would not feel left out and could participate together. We will continue to take the lead in realizing social value by ensuring that more people can enjoy the pleasures of train travel."
