The results of the 2024 global TOEIC test score analysis have been released. South Korea's average score was recorded at 678 points, ranking 4th among Asian countries and 15th out of 39 countries worldwide.


On April 30, the Korea TOEIC Committee under YBM announced the global score analysis data. According to this announcement, Lebanon ranked first in average score by country with 853 points, followed by Germany (811 points), Poland (785 points), India (772 points), and Belgium (770 points). In Asia, India (772 points), the Philippines (719 points), and Malaysia (668 points) were among the top performers, with South Korea following these countries at 678 points. China (561 points), Japan (564 points), Vietnam (570 points), and Taiwan (581 points) had lower average scores than South Korea.

By age group, the largest proportion of test takers was in the 21?25 age range at 43.8%, followed by those aged 20 and under (21.6%) and those aged 26?30 (14.6%). Together, test takers in their teens and twenties accounted for about 80% of the total. The highest average score was recorded by the 26?30 age group at 666 points, followed by the 31?35 age group (654 points), and both the 21?25 and 36?40 age groups (625 points each). By gender, the proportion of female test takers was slightly higher at 50.3%, and the average score for women (624 points) was 24 points higher than that for men (600 points).


When asked about their reasons for taking the test, the most common answer was "employment" at 27.0%, followed by graduation (26.2%), study (25.5%), promotion (11.3%), and measuring language training outcomes (10.0%). Among these, test takers who took the TOEIC for employment purposes had the highest average score at 635 points, followed by those who cited study (613 points), graduation (590 points), language training (588 points), and promotion (571 points).

Among English usage areas, reading (32.0%) was reported as the most frequently used, followed by listening (20.6%), both listening and speaking (15.7%), and speaking (12.3%). Regarding difficulties in communicating in English, the most common responses were "sometimes" (36.1%) and "rarely" (22.1%), though some respondents answered "often" (17.4%) or "almost always" (8.8%). A representative of the Korea TOEIC Committee stated, "TOEIC is used not only as a simple English test, but also widely for employment, graduation, scholarships, and overseas study," adding, "TOEIC's status as a tool for developing global competencies will continue to strengthen."
