Yeongam County Welcomes Arrival of 95 Mongolian Seasonal Workers

Solving Rural Labor Shortages
Deployed to Farms After Human Rights Education

Yeongam County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Woo Seunghee) announced on the 30th that 95 seasonal workers from Mongolia arrived in Korea on the 29th.

This arrival is the result of the "Foreign Seasonal Worker Employment Agreement" that Yeongam County signed with Balunbayanuul County and Bornuur County in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

In particular, last year, Governor Woo Seunghee and other members of the Yeongam County delegation visited Mongolia and promised with Undravilleg, Governor of Bornuur County, to work together to address the labor shortage in Yeongam's rural areas.

The seasonal workers who arrived on this day are outstanding personnel who were educated and selected through a screening process in Mongolia. Upon arrival, they underwent medical examinations at Samho Jeil Hospital and Mokpo City Medical Center and participated in an entry orientation held at the county office.

The county conducted human rights education, including compliance requirements for seasonal workers and employers and the prevention of human rights violations, before connecting the seasonal workers with employers. The Mongolian seasonal workers are expected to help alleviate the rural labor shortage by working in the cultivation of food and horticultural crops such as sweet potatoes and chili peppers.

Governor Woo stated, "We welcome the Mongolian seasonal workers who have arrived for the busy spring farming season. I hope they build good relationships with Yeongam farmers and make a significant contribution to alleviating the labor shortage," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that seasonal workers can live comfortably and safely."

As of this month, there are currently 220 foreign seasonal workers in Yeongam County: 122 under the family invitation system for marriage immigrants and 98 under employment agreements. Next month, 330 seasonal workers are expected, and in June, 400 more, bringing the total number of seasonal workers in the first half of the year to 950.
