The Busan Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Director: Lee Namil) selects and promotes a “Memorial Facility of the Month” every month in order to raise public awareness of memorial facilities and to spread a culture of honoring patriots and veterans in daily life.
For May 2025, the selected memorial facility is the “Dr. Jaehyuk Park Award” located in Children's Grand Park, Choeup-dong, Busanjin-gu. This monument was erected to honor the noble spirit of independence activist Park Jaehyuk, who, during the Japanese occupation, threw a bomb at the Japanese chief of the Busan Police Station, was subsequently arrested and sentenced to death, and ultimately died after a hunger strike in Daegu Prison.
To commemorate the anniversary of Park Jaehyuk’s death on May 11, the Busan Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs holds a memorial ceremony every year. The office explained that this was the reason for selecting the Dr. Jaehyuk Park Award as the local memorial facility for May.
An official from the Busan Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs stated, “We will continue to carry out various promotional activities so that memorial facilities honoring our region’s proud independence activists become even more familiar to citizens.”
