Soongsil University to Establish South Korea's First AI College: "Securing Future Growth Engines"

Soongsil University will become the first university in South Korea to establish a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) College.

On April 30, Soongsil University announced that it will launch the AI College next year, with the goal of fostering talent to lead the AI era and securing future growth engines for the university.

The AI College will offer four majors: Software, Information Security, Artificial Intelligence, and AI Systems. A total of 24 full-time professors will be responsible for education. A university official stated, "Each major is designed to provide a balanced education in both theory and practice, and the curriculum will be operated in close collaboration with industry to help students develop practical skills required in the field."

Soongsil University will also make significant investments in state-of-the-art computing infrastructure and research facilities to establish the AI College. The university plans to create a dedicated building for the AI College, equipped with high-performance GPU servers, a cloud computing environment, and laboratories exclusively for AI research and experimentation.

The AI College at Soongsil University, set to open next year, will initially recruit 160 freshmen. In addition, the university aims to allow 439 students who entered the Division of Liberal Studies (Type 1) this year to choose a major within the AI College starting next year.

Lee Yoonjae, President of Soongsil University, stated, "We will pursue policies that enhance the university's competitiveness through strategic choices and focused efforts," adding, "We will spare no administrative and financial support to help Soongsil University emerge as a leading institution in the AI era."
