The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) is implementing the "Kindergarten-Elementary Connection Semester" to strengthen the linkage between kindergarten and elementary school curricula as part of its measures to reduce private education and support holistic development in young children as they prepare to enter elementary school.
The kindergarten-elementary connection education involves kindergartens and elementary schools collaborating and respecting each other as they design, link, and implement their curricula together.
Since 2023, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has been striving to support young children's adaptation to elementary school and to alleviate the psychological anxiety of parents whose children are about to enter elementary school through the operation of the "Kindergarten-Elementary Connection Semester."
This year, 92 kindergartens (linked with 46 elementary schools) were selected through an open call. The program will focus on supporting children's adaptation to elementary school through play-based language education for children and parents, pre-enrollment parent education, integrated first-grade curriculum-linked classes, and cross-curricular linked classes.
In addition, to ensure the effective operation of the connection semester, on-site consulting will be conducted from May to September using kindergarten and elementary teacher consultants, and a kindergarten teacher network will be operated to continuously share cases and information about the connection semester.
Superintendent Kim Seokjun stated, "Connection education should be carried out from the perspective of growth, not just adaptation," and added, "The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will actively support not only a smooth transition from kindergarten to elementary school, but also the happy lives and healthy growth and development of young children."
