Launch of Content Curation Chatbot "DD"
Introduction of New Short-form Content Service "Daum Loop"
Daum, the portal operated by Kakao, announced on April 30 that it has carried out a second round of updates to its application. The updated Daum app will be rolled out sequentially starting today.
With this second update, Daum has enhanced content personalization and curation, making it easier for users to access content.
First, Daum is introducing a new beta version of its curation chatbot, "DD." Through DD, users can access news content tailored to their preferences based on their tendencies and interests. Users can also keep up with the latest issues by viewing summaries of major topics and news that are most viewed by other users.
In addition, Daum has renamed its short-form content service to "Daum Loop" and added a dedicated "Loop" tab at the bottom of the app. At the top of the Loop tab, "Recommended" and "Popular" tabs, as well as a search area, have been added for greater convenience.
In the Recommended tab, users can continuously browse personalized recommended content by scrolling. The Popular tab displays trending short-form content based on user engagement data such as likes and views. Within these tabs, users can select categories such as news or sports to enjoy related content, and can also view popular content from channels they subscribe to. Users can also search for and watch short-form content they are interested in directly.
Additional sub-content tabs have been introduced to the existing bottom navigation of the Daum app. In the content tab, a pilot "Local News" tab has been launched to provide local news from partner media outlets that joined in April. The shopping tab now features a "Multi-Shop" tab, which includes a variety of brands and shopping channels.
Users can now swipe left or right to navigate between the bottom tabs, improving usability. Shortcuts to major content tabs such as news, sports, and entertainment have been added to the Home tab feed, streamlining navigation within the app.
Yang Juil, head of Kakao Content CIC, stated, "As a comprehensive content platform, we have updated various recommendation and tab services to curate personalized content for our users." He added, "We plan to continue strengthening the competitiveness of the Daum app by sequentially launching new short-form content and further advancing DD within this year."
