Genesis to Host Partnership Exhibition with London’s Tate Modern

Do Ho Suh's First Large-Scale Solo Exhibition in London
Open Until October 19... Numerous New Works Unveiled

Genesis announced on April 30 that it will host "The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh: Walk the House," a partnership exhibition with Tate Modern in London, from May 1 to October 19, local time.

This exhibition marks artist Do Ho Suh's first large-scale solo show in London. It highlights the artist's creative world, which has unfolded over the past 30 years in cities such as Seoul, New York, and London. Through large-scale installations, sculptures, videos, and drawings, the exhibition presents the artist's exploration of the relationships among architecture, space, the body, and memory. It also conveys Do Ho Suh's broad reflections on themes such as dwelling and movement to the audience.

The exhibition title, "Walk the House," was inspired by the portability of Hanok, a traditional Korean house that can be dismantled and reassembled in different locations. It reflects the artist's long-standing interest in the concept of home as a space that shapes both individual and collective identity.

The artist will debut two site-specific installations, including "Nest/s" (2024), which recreates lived-in spaces as life-sized, translucent fabric structures, along with several new works being unveiled for the first time.

Other major works on display include "Rubbing/Loving Project: Seoul Home" (2013-2022), a piece in which the artist wrapped the interiors of homes he lived in with paper and hand-rubbed them with charcoal; "Who Am We?" (2000), which uses a mosaic of yearbook ID photos to reflect on individual and collective identity; and "Bridge Project," which documents the ongoing research and contemplation on the idea of a perfect home.

The exhibition also features various two-dimensional works, such as thread drawings created by stitching on paper, as well as video works including "Robin Hood Gardens" (2018) and "Dong In Apartments" (2022).

A Genesis representative stated, "Do Ho Suh has closely examined how perceptions of time and space change and expand within individual and collective histories, based on an intimate exploration of memory and movement." The representative added, "We hope this exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to rediscover the true value of life." They continued, "Genesis will continue to pursue differentiated cultural and artistic sponsorship activities in partnership with leading global art institutions."

Genesis began its "Genesis Art Initiative" in earnest last July by signing a mid- to long-term partnership with The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The partnership, known as "The Genesis Facade Commission," is a program that presents new sculptures and installations by world-renowned artists on the museum's main facade.
