Development of Materials to Prevent Thermal Runaway Through Government Projects
"Recognizing the Need for Continuous R&D Support"
The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) announced on April 30 that it had visited SBTL Advanced Materials, a secondary battery materials company located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, to review the company's major products and current status, and to hold a communication meeting.
SBTL Advanced Materials is a company that develops battery materials such as battery pouches and structural components. It is currently the leading manufacturer in South Korea with the longest track record in developing aluminum pouch films for secondary batteries.

Through government programs such as the Startup Growth Technology Development Project and the SME Technology Innovation Development Project, SBTL Advanced Materials has developed high heat-resistant pouches and battery structural components using heat runaway prevention and heat-resistant materials.
Specifically, the company has developed three-layer thermal management materials that prevent secondary battery fires and explosions, including AI-based high heat-resistant pouch films, high-safety barrier films, and exterior materials for cooling modules. SBTL Advanced Materials currently meets the material requirements for products such as mobile phones, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems (ESS), and is conducting projects with 46 global companies.
Youngshin Kim, Director of KIAT, said, "By observing SBTL Advanced Materials, which continues to strengthen its global competitiveness through relentless product development and innovation, I have realized the necessity of continuous support for research and development (R&D). We will continue to do our utmost to support R&D and commercialization for SMEs in the materials, parts, and equipment sectors so that they can grow into global suppliers."
