Realizing Transparent and Trustworthy Welfare Administration
Focused Campaign to Prevent Fraudulent Welfare Benefit Claims
Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province has launched a focused campaign to prevent welfare finance fraud, aiming to address the annually increasing problem of fraudulent welfare benefit claims and to realize a transparent and trustworthy welfare administration.
On April 30, the county distributed welfare finance fraud prevention promotional items to 17 towns and townships, encouraging residents to be more aware of and report fraudulent activities.
In particular, the county is making efforts to prevent budget waste through these preventive activities, as the continuous expansion of welfare programs has led to a steady increase in the welfare budget, and various types of fraudulent claims have consistently occurred. These include underreporting of income and assets by recipients, submitting false medical certificates to receive benefits, making false claims for social service voucher expenses, and continuing to receive benefits even after the recipient's death.
If anyone discovers cases of welfare finance being wasted through fraudulent means, they can report them via the Bokjiro website, the Ministry of Health and Welfare's welfare benefit investigation office, or the Hapcheon County Department of Resident Welfare.
Reports to prevent fraudulent claims can be made anonymously as well as under one's real name. Even when reports are made under a real name, the confidentiality of the whistleblower is strictly protected from the reporting and reception stage to ensure that no disadvantages are suffered as a result of the report.
A county official stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure the soundness of welfare finances by reducing budget waste through the prevention and eradication of fraudulent claims, and by providing welfare benefits more fairly and transparently to vulnerable groups who truly need support."
