Jeonnam Police Investigate Possible Quid Pro Quo
in Real Estate Transactions
The police have launched an investigation after allegations of bribery were detected against a senior official in Hwasun County, Jeonnam, who was caught playing Go-Stop with a construction contractor.
According to the First Anti-Corruption Investigation Division of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency on April 29, a Grade 4 (director-level) official of Hwasun County, identified as A, has been booked and is under investigation on charges including bribery.
On January 18, A was caught on the spot playing Go-Stop with a construction contractor at the contractor's office located in Hwasun County.
It has been confirmed that three other senior officials (Grade 5-6) from Hwasun County were also present at the scene.
At the time of the incident, suspicions of collusion between the officials and the contractor arose, but until now, the police had only investigated the case as illegal gambling.
However, it has been reported that the Public Service Discipline Management Office, which was conducting a separate investigation, requested the police to also look into the bribery allegations.
Accordingly, the police detected suspicious circumstances during A's real estate transactions and have recently launched a compulsory investigation, including conducting searches of offices.
The police plan to summon A for questioning regarding whether there was any quid pro quo, as soon as the analysis of the confiscated items is complete.
