Boryeong City, which once stood at the center of South Korea's fossil fuel industry, is now rising as a new hub for the future mobility industry in the era of carbon neutrality, in partnership with Chungnam Province.

On April 29, the completion ceremony for the Carbon Neutral Mobility Center, which consists of four centers located at the Gwanchang General Industrial Complex in Jugyo-myeon, Boryeong City, Chungnam Province, was held. The event was attended by about 300 people, including Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam Province, Jin Jongwook, President of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, heads of various organizations, local residents, and students.

In response to the era of eco-friendly carbon neutrality, Chungnam Province and Boryeong City have established four centers to support the testing, evaluation, research, and business development of eco-friendly mobility components such as electric vehicles and hydrogen ships. The four centers are: the High-Performance Electrification Center, the Electrification Tuning Vehicle Support Center, the Eco-Friendly Ship Testing and Evaluation Center, and the Eco-Friendly Ship Virtual Demonstration Center.

The four centers, built with a total project cost of 89.9 billion KRW, are equipped with 57 pieces of state-of-the-art equipment across 32 types, and will be operated by the Korea Automotive Technology Institute.

Once the four centers are fully operational, they are expected to foster industries to replace coal-fired power plants, secure new future growth engines, strengthen regional industrial competitiveness, create a high value-added industrial ecosystem, respond to the crisis of local extinction, and revitalize the local economy.

Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam Province, said, "Gwanchang Industrial Complex is especially meaningful to me, as I remember working to revitalize this barren land during my time as Vice Governor for Political Affairs. This completion ceremony is therefore even more special." He added, "The newly completed Carbon Neutral Mobility Center will actively support the industrialization of technology for our companies by testing and evaluating key components for electric vehicles and eco-friendly ships."

He continued, "Carbon neutrality is an inevitable challenge of our time. Many students are here today, and we must never pass this crisis on to them. Let us join forces to support technological advancement and ensure that alternative industries can grow properly, just as this center does."
