On the afternoon of April 29, six civic groups, including the Gadeokdo New Airport National Action Headquarters, held a special lecture at the Busan Ilbo auditorium under the theme, "The Role of Citizens for the Successful Relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan."
Marine and fisheries expert Professor Chu Yeongil was invited to the lecture, where he presented the direction Busan should take to become a maritime capital.
The lecture was attended by over 100 people, including key figures in the marine and fisheries sector such as Kim Youngdeuk, President of the Busan Port Industry Federation, Kang Jinjoong, President of the Tongyeong Residents Association, and Jin Gyuhou, former Vice President of Busan Port Authority. Professor Chu explained the role of Busan as a maritime capital and the responsibilities of the government, Busan City, and its citizens in realizing this vision.
During the Q&A session, some civic groups and citizens expressed their support for the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan and made a pledge to welcome it.
Kang Jinsu, head of the National Action Headquarters, stated, "We will continue our one-person publicity campaign and persist until the next administration finalizes the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan."
Prior to the lecture, six civic groups and four marine and fisheries-related organizations announced a joint statement supporting the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan.
These organizations emphasized, "Busan is Korea's number one port city and the heart of the marine and fisheries industries," adding, "Busan Port boasts the world's sixth-largest cargo throughput, is the nation's largest hub for seafood production and distribution, and is home to a concentration of marine-related universities and research institutes. Therefore, Busan is not just an ordinary port city, but a true maritime capital where industry, culture, and history are alive and thriving."
