A Captivating Exhibition Illuminating Countless Moments in Fashion History
The exhibition "Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams" by the French luxury fashion house Dior will continue at the iconic Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul until July 13, 2025.
This exhibition offers a glimpse into over 75 years of Dior's vibrant and creative history.
The legendary 30 Avenue Montaigne, which served as the backdrop for countless moments that illuminated the aspirations of Christian Dior and the history of fashion, has been recreated as a captivating space filled with rare archival documents. The New Look, which brought innovative change to the traditional vision of fashion and elegance, is presented through visually striking displays and a variety of reinterpreted designs.
The exhibition also features the Dior Garden, reflecting Christian Dior's affection for nature. Paying homage to the significance of gardens in Korean culture, this space stands out with its composition inspired by the traditional Korean moon jar. Korean artist Kim Hyunju's works, which depict various forms of plants using traditional Korean paper, Hanji, are accompanied by video installations representing the four seasons, offering visitors a tranquil moment and celebrating the cycle of life and nature cherished by Monsieur Dior.
The Lady Dior, beloved as a timeless masterpiece, reveals new charms through a variety of designs at this exhibition. The space features nine works from the Dior Lady Art project, created by Korean artists, and seventeen pieces under the Lady Dior As Seen By concept, highlighting the strong bond between the House of Dior and Korea.
Original ideas from Dior's artistic directors, from 1947 to the present, are expressed through unique spheres inspired by the Korean traditional patchwork technique, Jogakbo. The works of Christian Dior and his successor artistic directors are woven together into a single narrative, culminating in a portrait of Christian Dior completed by artist Zadie Xa. A space celebrating the exceptional savoir-faire of the Dior atelier features a white canvas backdrop, with dazzling visual elements and reflective effects that express the atelier's delicate craftsmanship. Additionally, the Colorama exhibition space presents immersive installations utilizing color combinations, once again emphasizing the importance of Dior accessories.
In addition, dresses worn by world-renowned stars that have illuminated beauty are on display, offering a sense of awe. The Dior Ball space, presented alongside installation art by Soo Sunny Park, completes an odyssey filled with the wonder of dazzling dresses in a moment where time appears to stand still.
Furthermore, the spirit of perfumery and passion for art cultivated by Christian Dior is highlighted in the Miss Dior space. The beautiful dress worn by Natalie Portman and installation works by Eva Jospin come together in a sensorial presentation, and visitors can also discover a space dedicated to the story of J'adore, inspired by the Palace of Versailles.
