Business Agreement on Yangsan City's 'Smartwatch Management Service'
Strengthening the Safety Net for Citizens
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province signed a business agreement on April 28 with the Yangsan Police Station and Yangsan Fire Station to prevent missing person incidents and secure the golden time, utilizing its self-developed 'Smartwatch Management Service for the Socially Vulnerable,' a first of its kind in the country.
This agreement was reached as the need for systematic management to ensure the safety of socially vulnerable groups such as dementia patients and children, as well as to enable a swift response in the event of a missing person, has become increasingly important. The free location management service is expected to further strengthen the community's safety net.
Through the signing of this agreement, the parties have solidified a cooperative system to enable immediate location tracking and rapid rescue in the event of a missing person incident. Yangsan City plans to support swift responses to missing persons and crisis situations through the Smartwatch Management Service.
The Smartwatch Management Service was officially recognized for its excellence and effectiveness by being selected as the 'Best Government Innovation Case' in the 1st Government Innovation Best and First Case Contest, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for all administrative agencies (ministries, local governments, and education offices) as well as central and local public institutions.
This service provides real-time location information for socially vulnerable individuals and children on a smartphone map. It allows users to set up danger and safe zones, and automatically sends text notifications when the person enters or leaves these designated areas. As a result, it shortens the initial response time to missing person incidents and is expected to become a significant turning point in ensuring citizen safety.
According to the Yangsan Police Station and Fire Station, Yangsan City has experienced an exceptionally low incidence of missing dementia patients, a result attributed to the introduction of the Smartwatch Management Service. This outcome is being regarded as strong evidence that the service is making a tangible contribution to preventing missing person cases.
An official from Yangsan City stated, "We expect that, in the search for missing persons, a rapid, technology-centered response system will be established, moving away from the traditional manpower-based approach."
